RFID Based Access Control System can provide an easy and efficient solution for enabling access to only authorized employees. The system can be customized based on company’s situation, the server stores database of authorized employees. RFID embedded cards are being used for identification of authorized person to allow or deny access to restricted area.
In the evening time on September 23, 2010, a confused employee left a burning cigar ends in the trash can of a printing factory’s warehouse in Shenzhen China. Till around 9pm in the evening, the fire grew to be visible and smoke sensor alarmed. The priority for the factory management was to check the staffs who worked OT that night. The manager received call from the factory security guard and drove to the site. On the way, he logined on the company access control system by cell phone, using data collected through RFID employee access cards, he found all staffs had left the factory before 8pm, fortunately, no one was injured.
The accidental fire brought a surprising side effect for the company management and staffs, they were aware that for security purposes their access cards tracked their comings and goings from the factory. Each RFID access card has a unique identifier that is associated with a staff. All the data recorded in the RFIF card and data server such as the entry and exit time are useful and important for some occasions. The employees who were not happy about strict access control became happy now and turned to be the support for RFID access control.
Many commercial institutes require their employees to carry photo ID cards, often with bar codes or magnetic stripes that can be swiped to open doors for office entry or access to storage lockers, filing cabinet or key cabinet. ID cards embedded with RFID tags, which have been used to control access in the workplace for more than a decade, tend to be more durable because now it is contactless entry.
The main advantage for the access control system is to track Employee Location and Access Restriction. The RFID access control and tracking system can assure that only authorized personnel can enter restricted areas. In case of any emergency, the system is able to response rapidly and quickly identifies the location of key personnel, and continuously track employees working in critical or sensitive areas.
